Position Overview: We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Payroll Lead to oversee our end to end payroll processes for all colleagues, ensuring accurate and timely payroll calculations, statutory compliance, and efficient handling of pension contributions. This role ensures operational excellence, regulatory adherence, and continuous improvement within the payroll function.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute the full payroll cycle, including preparation, calculation, validation, and disbursement for all colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC and other statutory bodies, including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, and student loan deductions.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records in line with changes in salary, bonuses, benefits, tax codes, and pensions.
- Administer workplace pension schemes, ensuring timely and accurate contributions, compliance with auto-enrolment legislation, and liaison with pension providers.
- Lead monthly and year-end payroll reconciliations, including P60, P11D, and P45 generation.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (HR, Finance, IT) and external vendors to ensure smooth payroll operations and data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and other data protection regulations regarding employee payroll information.
- Provide payroll reports and analytics to Finance and senior management as required.
- Continuously review payroll processes for accuracy, efficiency, and potential automation opportunities.
- Support audits and regulatory inspections related to payroll and pensions.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, and pension regulations
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in payroll software and MS Excel.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities with the capacity to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with colleagues and external partners.
- Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Proven experience in a payroll processing role
- CIPP qualification (preferred but not essential).
- Experience with pension administration and auto-enrolment schemes.
