Are you an experienced FOI specialist looking for a flexible short‑term contract? This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Australia’s most trusted national institutions and support its statutory Freedom of Information (FOI) function.
Hays is partnering with a highly regarded owned Media organisation to recruit a FOI Coordinator for an initial 8‑week assignment, working three days per week. This role offers full flexibility — work from anywhere in Australia.
Your New Role
Reporting to the Senior FOI Officer, you will play a key role in administering and coordinating the organisation’s FOI processes in line with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).
You will:
- Manage the administration of FOI requests end‑to‑end, including file creation, document tracking, and correspondence management
- Coordinate document searches, retrievals and statutory timeframes
- Prepare, review, and organise FOI documentation, including redactions as directed
- Maintain FOI request databases, deadlines, and reporting obligations
- Support compliance requirements such as the Disclosure Log and Information Publication Scheme (IPS)
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear, timely, and accurate communication
- Assist with FOI training, enquiries, and general administrative duties
- Collaborate with the FOI team and broader organisation to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To excel in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated FOI experience — essential for this assignment
- Experience in administrative, legal, or compliance‑driven environments
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Excellent written communication, including drafting clear, accurate correspondence
- High attention to detail and sound judgement
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
- Confidence working semi‑independently and collaboratively within a small team
