Freelance sub-editors

InsightX is a specialist reputation and risk intelligence agency, founded and run by journalists, that provides high-quality research, analysis and reporting for major clients in the worlds of sport and business. We deliver clear, reliable and impartial intelligence that helps organisations make informed decisions about individuals, companies and partners worldwide. 

We are seeking experienced Freelance Sub-Editors to support our growing research and reporting workload. This role is ideal for detail-driven editors with a firm grasp of journalistic standards, excellent written English and the ability to refine complex information into clear, readable and concise prose. Our sober style is very much that of respected national publications.

About the role

You will work closely with our Executive Editor and the editorial and research team to review and polish reports before delivery to clients. 

Typical tasks include

• Sub-editing reputation and risk reports for clarity, accuracy, structure and consistency
• Ensuring the correct application of InsightX’s internal style, tone and risk-category framework
• Checking that all findings are accurately summarised and categorised
• Identifying inconsistencies, ambiguities or gaps in reporting and querying them as needed
• Writing risk analyses based on the findings of each report 
• Ensuring that reports are well-structured, factually sound and written in high-quality British English
• Upholding confidentiality at all times

About You

We are looking for sub-editors who can demonstrate:

• Proven experience in sub-editing – preferably in journalism at a national level
• Exceptional command of English, with the ability to simplify complex narratives without losing nuance
• Strong judgement and an eye for detail, accuracy and linguistic consistency
• Familiarity with due diligence, media monitoring, corporate governance, financial crime or related areas (preferred but not essential)
• Ability to work remotely, manage deadlines and collaborate effectively with researchers
• Ability to respond to work requests with just a few days’ notice
• Reliability, discretion and professionalism
