About The Role
The Red Hat User Experience Design (UXD) team is seeking a skilled Frontend Engineer with a strong focus on CSS to join our innovative environment. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the architectural CSS layer for PatternFly, Red Hat’s open source design system. Your primary goal will be to ensure that the user interface code across Red Hat’s diverse product portfolio remains scalable, accessible, and visually consistent. You will play a pivotal role in guiding the evolution of our styling strategies to align with emerging global standards and support cutting-edge AI initiatives. Collaborating closely with designers, developers, and open source communities, you will help shape the visual language of Red Hat’s products and promote the widespread adoption of PatternFly across distributed teams.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in building complex layouts and components using modern CSS techniques, including Custom Properties, Grid, and Flexbox
- Experience with CSS pre-processors such as Sass or PostCSS for managing large-scale design systems
- Strong attention to detail in translating visual designs into functional, accessible code
- Solid understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and their implementation in component libraries
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with globally distributed teams
- Experience with component-driven development environments like React or Web Components (preferred)
- Familiarity with Git and open source development workflows (preferred)
- Practical experience working within Agile frameworks (preferred)
- Proficiency with AI tools such as Google Gemini, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code for development support (preferred)
- Willingness to explore and incorporate emerging AI technologies into workflows
Responsibilities
- Partner with interaction and visual designers to translate complex concepts into reusable, production-ready CSS
- Develop and maintain theming layers to ensure a unified experience across the Red Hat product ecosystem
- Implement accessible code patterns that adhere to WCAG standards, ensuring inclusivity for all users
- Collaborate with upstream open source communities to align visual standards and reduce engineering efforts across teams
- Review community code contributions to maintain performance, consistency, and maintainability standards
- Guide the adoption of PatternFly across distributed product teams to prevent UI fragmentation
- Utilize modern CSS techniques, preprocessors, and AI tools to optimize development workflows
- Stay updated on emerging AI technologies and explore their integration into design and development processes
