Background

Scale Messaging is a fully remote Messaging CRO agency. We work out what stops people converting on our clients' sites, then design and A/B test the changes that fix it. Our clients are mostly DTC ecommerce, marketplaces and lead-gen businesses across the UK, US and Australia.

Every change we make is A/B tested, so you find out whether your work actually won.

We are hiring because our CRO UX Designer is moving on after roughly three years with us.

Role Purpose

Turn written test briefs into finished Figma mockups a developer can build — fast, tidy, and in the client's existing style. Use UX and design to communicate the CRO strategist’s test brief in the most effective way as well as spotting the opportunities we haven't by bringing your own test ideas to the table.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a written test brief, test draft and Loom walkthrough (the insight, the hypothesis, and what the change needs to say) and design it up in Figma.
  • Design mobile-first, then desktop.
  • Match the client's existing site style without being handed a style guide.
  • Keep designs simple enough to ship as a Convert test variation, not a rebuild.
  • Turn work around in roughly 24-48 hours.
  • Keep Figma files tidy so a developer can build from them without asking questions.
  • Contribute to ideation — propose changes you believe will move conversion, not just execute ours.
  • Think in templates and systems — a change to one product page should account for every page it will run on.

Important: As a CRO UX Designer, a lot of the core work involves small changes. Adding a block to a product page, reworking a form, changing how options are presented. These are not redesigns and they are not brand projects. The designer who will thrive here enjoys using UX and design to improve conversion performance.

Room to Grow

For the right person, this role can become more than test design. Depending on your skillset there's scope to expand into:

  • Design direction — scoping work, building design systems and processes, not just completing tasks.
  • AI-assisted workflows — we're actively building AI into how we work, and we want someone who's curious about doing the same.
  • Landing page design and full-page mock-ups — bigger scope and bigger creative freedom

Requirements

  • One weekly team call on Australian Western Standard Time (UTC+8). This one is not negotiable. It will be within EU and Australian business hours.
  • Available and online every working day. Your hours are flexible and you won't be working full days, but we need to be able to reach you daily — this isn't a "batch it all on the weekend" role.
  • Fast, tidy and organised in Figma.
  • Serious attention to detail — fonts, spacing, alignment, wording. You spot the typo or the version where one line of copy changed.
  • Able to match an existing site's style by looking at the site itself.
  • Solid understanding of website front-end fundamentals and dev constraints.
  • Understanding of A/B testing. CRO experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Able to turn work around fast (24-48 hours).
  • Genuine interest in human behaviour, CRO and experimentation
  • Experience in CRO UX Design is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and better, and interested in where design is heading.

Tools: Figma, Asana and Google Workspace. Convert.com understanding is a + but not essential.

This role is not for you if:

  • You want to own a brand or run full redesigns.
  • You need a lot of creative freedom on every task.
  • You only want to execute tickets and never suggest anything.

Profile

You are precise and quick. You spot the one-pixel shift, you get the font and the spacing right the first time, and you can pick up a site's style just by looking at it. You care more about how a design performs than how it looks in your portfolio, and you are happy working inside tight constraints on a steady run of small jobs. You are genuinely interested in how UX and design affects human behaviour and love the idea of being able to come up with ideas and test them.

You have a good sense of direction, where each brand's design should go, and how you can create changes that not only align with the brand but enhance its identity.

You should always be on the lookout for systemising. Because you will be the main and only designer in this small team, your leadership in how to improve the design process, efficiency, and quality is important.

Workload & Terms

  • Starts part-time: roughly 10 –15 small design tasks a month, most taking 1-3 hours. For the right person, the role can grow into something bigger — including full-time.
  • Hours are flexible - as long as you have overlap time with the rest of the team, particularly with the Strategists and the CRO Lead. Other client work is fine, as long as you're available to us daily.
