Position Overview SFM is looking to add a Data & Research Analyst to an internal investment team that manages a European REITs strategy. This unique hybrid position will play a critical role in supporting the investment decision-making process through being responsible for gathering, analyzing and interpreting key datasets as well as work on stock analysis to generate investment ideas. This position requires strong quantitative skills, an understanding of financial markets and proficiency in data analysis tools. Key Relationships Reports to: European REITs Portfolio Manager Other Key Relationships: SFM Investment Professionals, Trade Support, IT, Risk Major Responsibilities
- Source, process, clean and analyze key external datasets using a combination of firmwide technologies (Python, dbt, Snowflake) and custom developed tools
- Perform analysis on historical and real time market data to provide data driven insights and assess investment opportunities, utilizing statistical methods and machine learning techniques where relevant
- Provide expert guidance to the Portfolio Manager and other members of the investment team in evaluating investment opportunities for the portfolio
- Conduct independent research, stock and industry analyses
- Analyze news and events, attend industry conferences, conduct expert due diligence
- Provide ongoing oversight on new and existing investments, including:
- Maintaining models, performing data analytics, evaluating risk/reward
- Sourcing and analyzing third-party research
- Interacting with internal and external subject-matter experts
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a data analysis role in public markets, ideally with some buy-side experience
- Demonstrated industry knowledge/expertise and prior REITs experience would be helpful, but not essential
- Some knowledge of portfolio optimization techniques
- Proficiency in Python. Strong experience in a similar dynamic language (R, MATLAB, etc) will be considered with ability to learn Python a requirement.
- Strong understanding of SQL and general relational database concepts. It will be helpful to have direct experience utilizing Snowflake, Snowpark and related tools.
- Familiarity with common data science and machine learning technologies such as Jupyter, Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib or similar
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP a plus
- Good coding practices (documentation, unit tests etc) and ability to learn / leverage firmwide platforms for source control (Github), orchestration (ActiveBatch) and cloud deployment (Octopus, Docker)
- Ability to distill complex situations into succinct takeaways
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication with the ability to clearly present complex data insights to stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and expeditiously
