Job Summary

We seek a strategic, hands-on Director of Finance to oversee controllership, FP&A, client trust/IOLTA accounting, treasury, cash flow, revenue cycle, systems, controls, and team development. The ideal candidate combines Controller-level expertise, commercial judgment, and experience building scalable structure.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Finance and FP&A

• Advise executives on financial strategy, risk, growth, investment, and cost management.

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, scenario modeling, and multidimensional analysis.

• Model contracts, deposits, collections, case progression, revenue, staffing, marketing, and expenses; evaluate expansion, pricing, compensation, technology, and other initiatives.

Accounting and Reporting

• Ensure accurate records and timely closes, including entries, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany activity.

• Produce financial statements, cash-flow and departmental reports, and executive packages.

• Maintain the chart of accounts, worktags, cost centers, reporting structures, and accounting policies.

• Ensure proper accounting for client payments, refunds, cancellations, deferred and earned revenue, and multi-entity activity.

• Resolve material accounting issues and coordinate audits, taxes, banking, insurance, and year-end activities.

Client Trust and IOLTA

• Oversee trust/IOLTA accounting in accordance with bar rules, banking requirements, client agreements, and firm policy.

• Ensure fund segregation, accurate client ledgers, and monthly three-way reconciliations of bank, general-ledger, and subsidiary-ledger balances.

• Control deposits, earned-fee transfers, refunds, disbursements, checks, and residual balances; investigate exceptions and prevent commingling, unauthorized activity, overdrafts, and unsupported disbursements.

• Maintain audit-ready records and train employees on trust controls.

Revenue Cycle, Treasury, and Cash Flow

• Oversee billing, receivables, collections, cash application, refunds, payment plans, chargebacks, and contract-to-cash.

• Monitor collections, payment plans, cash conversion, and aging; establish accountability for aged accounts, write-offs, credits, and refunds.

• Maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast and liquidity projections; oversee operating and trust cash, treasury, merchant costs, and banking relationships.

• Implement fraud-prevention and approval controls for ACH, wires, checks, refunds, vendor payments, corporate cards, and banking changes.

Systems, Controls, and Data

• Own Finance systems, integrations, reporting, and data.

• Lead implementation, stabilization, and optimization of Workday Financial Management and Workday Accounting Center.

• Establish controls, reconciliations, and consistent transaction mapping across Workday, Litify, payroll, contractor, banking, expense, and other systems.

• Define authoritative data sources and build approval, access, transaction-limit, and segregation-of-duties controls.

• Partner with IT, Legal Operations, People Operations, BI, and consultants to improve data integrity.

Leadership

• Design a scalable Finance structure with clear ownership across accounting, trust accounting, FP&A, billing, collections, payroll, accounts payable, treasury, and systems.

• Recruit and develop professionals; establish goals, service standards, succession plans, documentation, and cross-training.

• Build a culture of accuracy, urgency, ownership, confidentiality, and continuous improvement; strengthen executive reporting and budget accountability.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

• 10+ years of accounting/Finance experience, including 5+ years leading Finance or FP&A teams.

• Controller-level command of GAAP, financial statements, close, reconciliations, cash flow, controls, budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and executive reporting.

• Hands-on trust, IOLTA, escrow, fiduciary, custodial, or comparable regulated-fund accounting experience, including three-way reconciliations and fund segregation.

• Experience transforming Finance in a rapidly growing organization.

• Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany activity, billing, collections, payroll accounting, treasury, advanced Excel, financial modeling, and enterprise financial systems.

• Strong leadership, judgment, confidentiality, communication, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA or advanced degree; law-firm Finance leadership; direct trust/IOLTA oversight; Workday Financial Management, Accounting Center, Litify, or Salesforce experience; distributed or cross-border operations; Finance transformation; and English/Spanish bilingual proficiency.
