Balance Digital is a sports commerce and digital transformation agency. We work with professional clubs, leagues and rights holders across football, golf, cricket and rugby, helping them sell more, understand their fans better and modernise the commercial infrastructure behind both.
We are hiring a Head of Performance Marketing to own paid media and digital marketing across our client portfolio and build the performance function around it.
You will be the senior performance voice in the business, across client work and new business pitches, and the person who sets the standard for how performance is delivered. This is a role for someone who still enjoys being hands on in the accounts, and who wants their DNA in how a performance department gets built.
It is an entrepreneurial role in an industry most people would love to work in, with the access to games and events that comes with working alongside clubs and rights holders.
• Own Paid Performance. Full ownership of Google, Meta and programmatic across every client account, from strategy through build, optimisation and measurement.
• Lead Client Relationships. Run the performance conversation with Marketing Directors, CMOs and digital leads at clubs. You lead on your accounts, with support from CCO when required.
• Build the Team. Define what the performance team looks like, then hire and develop it.
• Win Work. Join pitches as the performance expert in the room and help convert them.
• Shape Commercials. Input on scoping, retainer design and where an account should grow. Your read on what is deliverable and profitable.
• Set the Standard. Build the playbook from scratch. Measurement frameworks, naming conventions, reporting cadence, QA, client onboarding. The version that still works when there are six of you.
• Connect the Channels. SEO, CRM and ecommerce trading sit alongside paid in most engagements. You will be accountable for how all channels join up and for the quality of delivery.
We work with clubs and rights holders across the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A and the EFL, alongside organisations in golf, cricket and rugby. You work with them directly, access at that level is rare outside of going in-house at a single club, and here you get it across a portfolio.
Work runs across paid, organic, CRM and ecommerce, so there is exposure to how all channels work together rather than just one. Most clubs have good fan data and do very little with it. Retention and segmentation is where the opportunity for many is.
We are remote first, so you work where you work best, with the team together in London regularly for client sessions, pitches and planning. Some overlap into US client hours comes with the portfolio.
Initially you build this function, you will need to be comfortable building before you are managing. Once the discipline is proven you will hire your own structure around it. This is an entrepreneurial role and suits someone who would rather build than inherit.
• Strong agency experience, ideally within retail or sport, managing multiple client accounts with competing priorities and deadlines.
• Current, hands-on expertise across Google and Meta, with the ability to build and optimise campaigns personally.
• Commercial ownership of client accounts, including scoping, resourcing and P&L management.
• Deep experience in media planning and campaign delivery.
• The confidence to lead senior client conversations independently and articulate recommendations if challenged.
• Strong analytical capability, including attribution, incrementality and the ability to demonstrate what each channel is genuinely contributing.
• Comfort operating without established process, and the initiative to define it.
Experience with ecommerce, subscription or membership businesses, and across US and European markets. A working understanding of SEO and CRM, enough to set strategy, direct specialists and challenge the work. Familiarity with Shopify, GA4, Funnel and CRM platforms such as Klaviyo, Bloomreach or Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Sport is a bonus, however we would rather hire an excellent agency operator and teach them the sector.
