HR Manager, Germany


Travel: Approx. once a month travel to Germany, particularly for works council meetings

The Role

An established international organisation is looking for an experienced HR Manager to support its German business.


This is a hands-on, operational position suited to an HR generalist who can confidently manage employment matters across Germany while working remotely. You will partner with senior business stakeholders and provide practical, commercially focused HR support in a fast-moving and evolving environment.


The role requires strong knowledge of German employment legislation, direct experience working with German works councils, and fluency in both German and English.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day HR leadership and operational support to the German business.
  • Advise managers on German employment law, HR policies and people-related decisions.
  • Manage complex employee relations matters, including performance, disciplinary and grievance cases.
  • Lead engagement and consultation with German works councils.
  • Support organisational change, restructuring and other sensitive employment matters.
  • Develop practical people plans aligned with current business priorities.
  • Oversee recruitment requirements and support timely, commercially sound hiring decisions.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures and employment practices remain appropriate and compliant.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across a matrix organisation.
  • Support learning, development and capability-building requirements where needed.


What We’re Looking For

  • Strong HR generalist experience supporting employees and managers in Germany.
  • In-depth, practical knowledge of German employment legislation and direct experience engaging with German works councils.
  • Experience managing employee relations matters, including performance, disciplinary and grievance processes.
  • Fluent German and English communication skills.
  • A hands-on, fast-paced and commercially aware approach.
  • Confidence working independently and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Germany for works council and business meetings.
  • Current right to work in the country where you are currently based.
