Position: Telephone Operators

Type: Contract

Compensation: $27 - $85/hour

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Operate telephone switchboards and systems to initiate, advance, and complete various calls, including local, long distance, pay phone, mobile, person-to-person, and emergency connections
  • Observe signal lights on switchboards, dial or press buttons to route calls, and maintain seamless connections
  • Listen attentively to customer requests, reference alphabetical or geographical directories, and deliver accurate telephone information
  • Suggest and verify alternate spellings, locations, or listing formats for customers with incomplete or unclear information
  • Update and maintain directory information to ensure accuracy and accessibility
  • Receive, document, and categorize information from multiple sources, compiling and verifying data as required
  • Utilize computer-aided dispatch software and handheld computer device software to process information and support operational efficiency

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using computer-aided dispatch software and handheld computer device software
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to process and document information accurately
  • Ability to observe, receive, and interpret information from diverse sources
  • Comfortable working directly with the public and delivering professional customer service remotely
  • Experience updating and verifying telephone directory information for large organizations
  • Background in a high-volume customer service or dispatch environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining high accuracy
