Hours: 35 hours per week

About the Role:

We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to join a small, friendly and fully remote team within a nature charity, working on a large-scale biodiversity data platform. This platform brings together data from hundreds of organisations across the UK and makes it accessible to more than 16,000 registered users.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a number of interesting projects where you’ll be responsible for implementing enhancements, developing new features, improving the code base, and supporting internal applications that improve efficiency.

Requirements:

We’re looking for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable working across a polyglot environment, with experience in:

  • Object Oriented Programming
  • MVC Java frameworks (ideally Spring / Jakarta EE / Grails)
  • Frontend: JavaScript, jQuery, HTML CSS
  • REST web services
  • ORM (e.g. Hibernate)
  • Working knowledge of Linux
  • MySQL or PostgreSQL

You should also bring:

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dispersed team
  • Comfort working on complex, sometimes undocumented code

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new features and enhancements for the platform, associated websites, and APIs
  • Collaborate with colleagues to scope, test, and deploy work
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation
  • Contribute to planning and project management (e.g. Jira)
  • Support continuous improvement of the platform and internal systems
  • Represent the development team in internal and external meetings

Benefits:

  • 28 days annual leave (Pro-rata), plus UK bank holidays and additional days over Christmas
  • Pension scheme with matched employer contributions up to 7%
  • A supportive, collaborative working environment
  • The chance to work on meaningful projects with genuine impact for biodiversity and the environment

Applicants must be UK-based and eligible to work in the UK.
