Backend Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Engineer to support a growing client in the technology industry in the Eastern United States. The Backend Engineer role is fully remote and requires working Eastern Time hours. The Backend Engineer role is ideal for a mid-to-senior level engineer with strong backend development expertise, networking fundamentals, Linux systems experience, and a passion for building scalable infrastructure and APIs. Responsibilities of the Backend Engineer include:

• Develop and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs that support critical business applications.
• Design, implement, and optimize software solutions leveraging Python or Go in Linux-based environments.
• Partner with infrastructure and platform teams to enhance networking, virtualization, and containerized application deployments.
• Troubleshoot complex application and system issues across distributed environments while improving reliability and scalability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical initiatives that drive platform modernization and operational excellence.

Requirements of the Backend Engineer include:

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong programming experience with Python or Go.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, Layer 2/Layer 3 switching, and routing protocols.
• Experience with Linux systems programming and operating system internals.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization and containerization technologies including QEMU, libvirt, Docker, and/or Kubernetes, along with experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.

Compensation for the Backend Engineer include:

• $105,000 - $135,000 annually
