Senior Investment Associate (Luxembourg-Luxembourg)

Reporting to: Chief Investment Officer

Location: Remote (CET time zones desirable)

Compensation: Competitive, according to experience

What you need to know about us and the position:

We seek a Senior Investment Associate to join our dynamic, rapidly growing and innovative organisation.

RELP is an impact-driven, independent, nonprofit that aims to make cheaper and faster deployment of renewable energy in emerging and developing countries. We aspire to increase reliable, affordable and sustainable energy, thereby mitigate climate change.

Our MISSION is to accelerate the energy transition in emerging and developing countries, promoting sustainable economic development for the people by designing and implementing long-term clean energy programmes that unlock investments at scale.

Our prominent Advisory Board consists of Michael Liebreich, Rachel Kyte, Rebecca Collyer, Angelina Galiteva, David Rogers, Daniel Magallón, Charles Bai and Felix Zhang and Liz Bronder as part of our team and board.

We are funded by philanthropic organisations, including the Rockefeller Foundation, Quadrature Climate Foundation, Ballmer Group, European Climate Foundation, and Packard Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Oak Foundation and Good Energies Foundation through Climate Breakthrough.

Relp.ngo is the sponsor of iTrust, a blended finance fund being established in Luxembourg to provide guarantees for the payment obligations of the energy off-taker in case the off-taker has credit and liquidity issues. The iTrust derisking structure aims to catalyse private sector capital alongside public and philanthropic capital to de-risk winning bids of renewable energy auctions and accelerate the energy transition. Fund investors would include the host government and multiple MDBs/DFIs, donors, and development partners, sharing risks, maximising benefits and leveraging involvement and special international status of investors.

The ideal candidate will have comprehensive experience in analysing and structuring financial deals in the renewable energy sector, along with a proven ability to conduct market research and generate insightful briefs on energy finance activities across various regions and countries. Ideal experience would include work across several countries with or within the MDB/DFI community on complex multi stakeholder programs.

You will succeed in this role if you are a highly skilled analyst with a strong background in renewable energy finance, particularly in emerging markets.

If you like challenges, you are passionate about renewable energy and you are looking for a job with a meaningful impact in scaling up clean energy systems in the world while contributing to fighting climate change in a significant way, RELP will be a great fit for you!

Develop financial models, budget projections and perform risk assessments to optimise the fund’s financing structures. Build scenarios to demonstrate sensitivity to assumptions that affect investor returns and speed of sub-funds deployment.

Collaborate with investors, independent power producers (IPPs), and financial institutions to negotiate terms and agreements for the fund´s financing arrangements, as needed.

Provide recommendations for improving financial performance and mitigating risks associated with deploying the fund.

-Market Research and Analysis:
