Job Description

Posted on: June 30, 2025

Sanico Software is looking for a casual Junior Software Developer (Web Dev) to join our fully remote Australian team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our software dev team, learn the ropes with a dedicated mentor, and enhance your skill set.

We are looking for a motivated and willing learner. Someone who approaches unknown challenges head on, not hides from them. Someone that plays with the band, not a solo artist. A team player, not a lone ranger. A coder, not a prompter. We want someone that is enthusiastic to join the industry and bring their problem solving skills to Sanico.

Whether a University student, a new graduate looking to ease into the software industry, or a self taught software dev looking for an entry role, we welcome a wide range of applicants. As a junior role we expect a candidate to demonstrate fundamental software skills with a focus on web development. We will accept candidates without any prior industry experience but no more than 1 year of experience.

You will join as a casual team member and work 2 to 3 days (15-22.5 hours) per week. The role pays $30 per hour. You will require an ABN and be hired as a contractor. Further details will be given through the interview process.

About the Role

A majority of companies usually hire someone specific to frontend or backend. With us, we search for software developers, able and willing to work across a wide range of software tasks. This ranges from frontend, backend, devops, documentation, software testing, and more. At Sanico we value a generalist.

Our developers work in teams of two. Therefore, a new dev will work alongside an experienced team member that will mentor them. All new developers at Sanico start with frontend development, a critical skill and a hallmark of our reputation as a company. The new dev will build beautiful web components in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with various frameworks, dependent on the software project.

Other than technical software skills we expect all team members to have excellent written communication skills in English. We expect this because we conduct the majority of our communication through our project management software called Basecamp. You must also be prepared for video-call meetings when requested from the team. In other words, don’t wear your Oodie all day, look presentable.

At Sanico you must have fundamental and native software skills. We are not prompt engineers, we are software developers that write code by hand. We utilise generative AI to automate laborious and menial tasks, for research, and finding documentation pages but not to build applications. AI is an assistive tool, not the lead programmer.

Below we wrote a list of recent projects we worked on to help provide more context on the type of work we produce at Sanico:

  • We built a custom security dashboard for a Cyber AI startup based in Germany.
  • We created a full stack application for a teaching company that performs training for the largest mining companies across Australia which include BHP, Rio Tinto, and others.
  • Audited software for a global company based in Adelaide and helped save the client thousands of dollars due to mistakes from a previous developer.
  • We rolled out a fully custom ecommerce website for a national company that sells products in the largest supermarkets across Australia.
  • Architected a web application for a wedding startup. We are in the process of building the application now.

Remote Only Company

At Sanico our entire team works remotely. For this role you will work from home and are required to be within the Australian time zones AWST, ACST, or AEST. While all team members are currently based in Australia, we have clients globally. Software is global in nature and so is our company.

We expect 2-3 days per week of availability between Monday to Friday during business hours. The applicant requires facilities to work successfully from a home office.

About Sanico Software

Founded by Sav and Dom Tripodi in Adelaide, Australia, we have been producing software for over 6 years. We started with a humble premise: to build the best software for companies and individuals across the globe. We build websites, web applications, software integrations, and provide a range of other professional services such as software consulting and auditing. We focus on a high quality of service and communication in all of our dealings, hence why we found success very early on in our business.

At Sanico we value our differences compared to a typical company. Forget unnecessary meetings that only required a simple email, the expectation to work late nights and weekends, or to navigate ridiculous processes with no resources. No unachievable deadline, no manager breathing fire down your neck for hourly “check-ins”, and no BS.

Instead we focus on hiring managers of one, people who show initiative, self-police, and flourish naturally in their own role. Willing learners that constantly sharpen their skills. We help mentor software developers with the constant aim to create a highly competent and sought after dev team, the reason why companies around the world seek our expertise.

Applying for the Role

Submit an application through our portal to express your interest.

We expect personalised cover letters, we will not accept any generic applications written by generative AI. We do not use AI to vet applicants, instead a team member of Sanico will personally read all cover letters submitted. In return we ask for the same courtesy.

Introduce yourself, explain why the position is right for you, and discuss what value you would bring to Sanico. We want you to dig deep and tell us why the shoe fits you. Get creative about yourself in under 800ish words. Feel free to add University projects you created, link your GitHub account, share open source projects you contributed to, show a piece of code you are proud of, attach a blog you wrote, or add screenshots of interfaces you designed. Anything you feel adds to your application.

Applications close 14th July 2025 at 11:59PM ACST. Applications will be reviewed regardless of the time they were submitted.

Applications are only accepted through our portal. Direct emails will not be acknowledged.

After the Application Process

Applicants will be reviewed approximately 1 week after the deadline.

For successful applicants we will conduct interviews remotely via Google Meet. You will interview with either the business owners or another one of your future team members.

We will go through your professional experience, discuss the role, and get to know each other. On success we will invite you to a technical interview with a lead engineer or provide a technical take home assessment. Forget about the classic technical interviews wanting optimised algorithms or other silly tests, we will provide a real life situation and ask for a solution.

Within one month of the interviews we will make a formal offer to a successful candidate.

Please note, because of the high number of requests we do not offer feedback on applications.

Thank you for taking the time to go through the application process, we look forward to receiving your application.
