Commercial Co-Founder – Electronics Retail / Fintech | Equity | Pre-Seed
I'm building Techster — a platform designed to help electronics retailers retain customers at upgrade instead of losing them to Amazon or carriers.
The problem
UK independent electronics retailers sell a device once, then lose the customer at upgrade — usually 24 months later — to Amazon, Currys, or a carrier. That's hundreds of thousands of upgrades leaking out of the independent retail channel every year.
What Techster does
Techster embeds into retailer checkouts and gives customers device subscriptions plus upgrade credit that accumulates over their device cycle — but can only be redeemed at the same retailer. By the time upgrade day comes, switching means walking away from real money. Most customers won't.
It's structural retention, not a loyalty scheme. The switching cost is built in from day one.
What I need
Someone who already has relationships with independent UK electronics retailers.
You directly know commercial officers or heads of e-commerce or CEOs.
The immediate goal is securing the first pilot retail partners - everything else follows from that.
You'd be focused on:
Retailer partnerships and LOIs
Commercial strategy and go-to-market
Industry and investor relationships
Business development with distributors and finance partners
Essential background
Experience in consumer electronics retail, telecoms, or device distribution
A network you can actually call on - warm relationships with retailers or distributors
Track record of closing commercial deals, not just managing them
Startup or early-stage experience a strong plus
Who this role is for
This role is most likely a fit if you've previously worked in:
- Currys / Dixons / Carphone Warehouse
- a mobile carrier (O2, EE, Vodafone, Three)
- electronics distribution or device wholesale
- independent phone retail groups
You already know people in the industry and can open doors with retailers directly.
You understand this industry
You already understand the fundamentals of electronics retail:
- device upgrade cycles
- device margin structures
- accessory economics
- retail distribution channels
You understand the commercial pressures retailers face.
