Microsoft Excel Expert & VBA Programmer (Remote – Australia)Digiwise is hiring a highly capable Microsoft Excel expert with strong VBA programming skills to join our team.

Location: Work from home – anywhere in Australia

Hours: Flexible, typically 10–25 hours per weekEngagement: Subcontractor only. Applicants must operate via their own business entity (company, or trust).

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft Excel expert to develop new solutions and enhance existing spreadsheets, often involving complex formulas, large datasets, and extensive VBA programming.

Typical work includes:

  • Complex financial models and calculators
  • Automated reporting tools
  • Large, multi-sheet operational workbooks
  • VBA-driven workflow automation for government and corporate clients
  • Reviewing, stabilising, and improving legacy spreadsheets

This is an ongoing role with recurring work. You’ll be an integral part of the Digiwise team, with access to support, collaboration, and professional development.

The role suits someone seeking flexible, meaningful work that complements other commitments — for example an established freelancer, someone semi-retired, or someone balancing family or study.

Work Arrangements

  • Fully remote, with the possibility of occasional on-site work if required
  • Flexible hours, varying based on client demand
  • Some regular availability during Australian business hours is required (e.g. responsiveness during the day and occasional scheduled collaboration)
  • Attractive hourly rates, negotiable based on experience
  • This role is offered strictly on a subcontractor basis. Engagement will be via the successful applicant’s own ABN-registered business entity, which may either a company or trust. Digiwise does not offer employment arrangements for this role.

  • Designing clear, maintainable VBA-driven systems
  • Improving and optimising complex existing spreadsheets
  • Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Becoming a trusted extension of the Digiwise team

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Expert Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  • complex formulas
  • pivot tables
  • advanced charting
  • external data integration
  • Strong VBA programming skills, with experience developing and maintaining complex systems
  • Demonstrated experience designing reports, calculators, and financial models
  • Ability to analyse complex data and build automated reporting solutions
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and manage your own workload
  • Clear, professional communication skills

Advantageous Skills & Experience (Not Required)

  • Experience with SQL databases (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Automation using other Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Access, Word)
  • Knowledge of other programming languages such as JavaScript, C#, or PHP
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, software engineering, data science, business analytics, or a related field
